Polartec® Products

Polartec® Pure Wool™
  • Overview

Mother nature happens to have done a fine job with Merino sheep.

Merino sheep produce a particularly fine quality wool that is soft and comfortable next to skin, while offering the seemingly disparate performance benefits of being warm in the cold, but remaining comfortable during heated pursuits. The Polartec® Pure Wool™ collection is not a black sheep in our family of fabrics.

  • How Does It Work?

    How Does It Work?

It all starts with the sheep. Their coats have evolved over centuries of exposure to some of the most extreme weather on the planet in order to provideprotection to the wearer. The structure and composition of the wool fiber is the key to its performance.

Wool is a complex protein made from keratin, which is the same building block protein found in our hair. Microscopic scales cover the outside to protect the inner cortex, which is hydrophilic and therefore highly breathable. Structures within the cortex also cause the wool fiber to crimp and curl. This improves its elasticity and creates pockets promoting entrapment of air between the wool fibers, which act as an insulator against both hot and cold temperatures.
